Making gum paste roses can be tough and time-consuming--even for the best cake decorator. We’ve got something to help! Our rose cutter set helps you make roses in minutes. All you need is the cutter and gum paste.

Not only does this make quick work of gum paste roses, but it also solves the problem of getting a consistent size and look. Use this cutter once and it’ll be your new best friend.

What You’ll Need
Easy Rose Cutter Set
Satin Ice Gumpaste
Food coloring of choice
Small rolling pin
Ball tool
Foam Pad
Tylose powder
Cornstarch
Vegetable shortening

Step 1
Make gum glue by adding ¼ teaspoon tylose powder to 2 tablespoons warm water. Mix well breaking up lumps. Cover and place in the refrigerator to set up to a syrupy consistency for a few hours or preferably overnight.

Color gum paste to desired shade using gel food coloring such as AmeriColor. Add a couple drops of coloring to gum paste and knead it in. We recommend wearing plastic gloves when coloring sugar paste!

Step 2
Sprinkle work surface with a moderate dusting of cornstarch and roll out a thin piece of gum paste about a 1/8 of an inch thick.

Step 3
Use the size cutter of your choice (our set includes three different sizes) and press down into the gum paste. Remove excess.

Note: If your piece of gum paste is drying out too quickly, or looks powdery, rub a dab of vegetable shortening into fingertips and lightly brush away any excess cornstarch using your fingers.

Step 4
Move your gum paste cut-out to a foam flower pad. Use the ball tool to lightly roll over the edges of the petals just until they curl up. The foam pad cushions the pedals helping them not to rip.

Step 5
Brush a thin line of gum glue down the center and fold in half lengthwise.

Start rolling from one end to the other, lightly pulling the petals downward to open the rose.

Once you get to the end, secure it using a little gum glue. If you'd like another row of petals to make a larger, fuller rose, repeat the above steps (Steps one through 4) then use gum glue to attach one end to the rose you created previously, and begin rolling the second piece of gum paste around the rose.

Set aside to dry for about 24 hours.
