Old fashioned cooked vanilla frosting
Old fashioned cooked vanilla frosting is a deliciously creamy frosting similar to swiss meringue buttercream or whipped cream frosting.
1 cup milk
3 ½ tablespoons flour
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup butter
½ cup shortening
2 teaspoons vanilla
In a small saucepan combine flour and milk, cook on medium-high heat until thickened.
Remove from stove and cool (cover and put in the refrigerator until cool)
Once cool you might notice a skin formed on the top. If so, peel off and discard.
In the bowl of an electric mixer, mix all remaining ingredients and beat on medium speed until well blended, at this point add the flour milk mixture and beat on medium until fluffy, scraping the bowl.
