Makes about 40 Halloween Marshmallow Pops
(You’ll have some leftover supplies)
Candy making supplies needed:
Large Marshmallows
1 pound Purple Merckens Chocolate Melts
1 pound White Merckens Chocolate Melts
1 pound Milk Chocolate Merckens Chocolate Melts
Black Sanding Sugar
Icing Eyes 3/8 inch
6-inch Lollipop Sticks
Brown paper candy cups #6
Make the vampire’s cape from a paper candy cup
Cut out a one ¼ inch section from the side of a candy cup, so the face of your pop can poke out. Cut a tiny “x” in the bottom of the candy cup liner to make an opening to insert the lollipop stick
Insert Lollipop Sticks into the Marshmallows
Melt purple Merckens candy melts in a deep microwave-safe bowl, 20 seconds at a time in the microwave, stirring in between intervals (here’s info on How to Melt Merckens Candy Melts).
Poke a hole ¾ of the way into the bottom of a marshmallow using a 6 inch lollipop stick. Then, take the stick out and dip it into some melted candy melts and insert it back into the hole (this ensures the marshmallow doesn’t pop off).
Steady the marshmallow pop into a block of styrofoam or a cake pop holder to keep it upright.
Repeat with all of the marshmallows.
Let them set up in the refrigerator for about 5 minutes.
Dip the Halloween marshmallow pops
Remelt purple candy melts if needed for 10 seconds at a time in the microwave until fluid again
(Pro Tip: place your bowl of melted Merckens candy melts onto a heating pad set on medium to keep candy coatings melted while working.)
Dip a marshmallow pop into melted candy coatings, twirl and tap the stick on the side of the container to remove excess chocolate, rotating the marshmallow to evenly coat
Make vampire hair with sanding sugar
Immediately dip the top of the dipped marshmallow into black sanding sugar and sprinkle a small amount onto the front to make the vampires widows peak.
Add a paper candy cup cape
Insert the bottom of the stick into a #6 brown paper candy cup you pre-cut and slide it up and around the bottom of the marshmallow (make sure the face of the vampire pop with the widow's peak is lined up with the opening of the cape)
Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for all of the marshmallow pops.
Let harden for about 5 minutes in the refrigerator.
Decorate the vampire pops
Dab melted purple candy coatings onto the backs of 3/8 of an inch icing eyes using a toothpick and attach on each side of the widow's peak.
To draw the mouth use a toothpick and some melted Merckens dark candy melts, let harden for 5 minutes in the refrigerator. Next, add the vampire fangs using a toothpick dipped in some melted Merckens white candy melts, dab it on and drag it down to make pointed ends.
Don’t worry if their faces all look a little different, each vampire marshmallow pop will have its own character, that's what makes them so cute!
Place marshmallow pops back into the styrofoam block to keep them upright. Refrigerate for 10 minutes or until completely set.
When you make marshmallow pops for the first time you might have these questions:
How do I thin candy melts if they are too thick?
You can thin candy melts by adding one to two teaspoons of paramount crystals to one pound of candy coatings and stir until they melt away. Paramount crystals work better than oil or vegetable shortening, they won’t keep your chocolate from hardening or add any unwanted flavor.
How do I store marshmallow pops?
Store marshmallow pops in a cool and dry place out of direct sunlight. Purple colored candy melts can fade, so try to keep them away from any light until you're ready to serve them.
How long do marshmallow pops keep?
Marshmallow pops are best if served within 3 days, but you can keep them for up to a week.
